Our Story

After graduating from the University of Cambridge with a Masters in Physics, I began tutoring, and quickly discovered it was something I genuinely loved. Helping students connect the dots, build confidence, and see subjects in a new light was incredibly rewarding. I found deep fulfilment not only in teaching but in guiding young people through the ups and downs of their academic journeys — supporting them as both a teacher and a mentor.

As my experience grew, so did a clear vision for what exceptional tutoring could look like — something more thoughtful, personal, and intellectually rich than that offered in classrooms. I founded BEW Tutors to create that vision: a carefully selected network of Cambridge-educated tutors who not only excel in their subjects, but also share a deep commitment to inspiring curiosity and independent thinking.

I’ve found that so many students are taught in school to memorise methods to solve a particular question, with no understanding of the reasoning behind. These students struggle far more when moving on to topics which build on this. We don’t just help students prepare for exams — we help them develop the kind of understanding and independent thinking which will benefit them for life.

Teaching Philosophy

Our philosophy is to teach a deep understanding, and apply this to problems, over basic memorisation. Research shows that students who understand the why behind a topic retain information longer, solve problems more effectively and are better able to transfer that knowledge to solve new, unfamiliar problems than those who rely on memorisation. At BEW Tutors, we focus on building this deep understanding to unlock true learning potential.

We aim to open students eyes to what science really is, and rekindle a child-like curiosity for how the world works. We are passionate about giving students a strong, deep understanding of topics, teaching how and why things happen, and encouraging students to visualise problems. Our tutors encourage students to fully engage, and ask as many questions as possible - this is critical for building understanding, and filling in any potential gaps. It is therefore so important for a student to feel comfortable asking questions, and we carefully select tutors whom we believe will be best matched for each student.

Of course, the right approach to teaching varies with student, as well as proximity to exams, and teaching styles should be adapted to be most effective for each student.

Too often I find students are taught at school to memorise everything - this is not how Maths or Sciences should be learnt. It is not only much easier to remember things when we understand how they work, but it also makes learning the next steps far easier.

What Makes us Different

Regular Feedback

Tutors provide reports after each lesson, offering insight into progress and next steps. At the end of each term, we share a detailed Progress Report, highlighting strengths, areas for development, and a refined plan moving forward. This ensures both students and families feel supported, informed, and confident in the journey ahead.

Cambridge Educated Tutors

Every tutor is selected for subject expertise, their ability to inspire, and teach with clarity and care.

Trial + Progress Strategy

We offer an initial lesson to explore fit, assess current level, understand their learning style, and identify how we can best support their goals. Based on this, we create a tailored learning plan, to maximise impact from the very beginning.

Philosophy-Driven Teaching

We emphasise real understanding over memorisation — encouraging students to ask questions, make connections, and think critically.

Personalised Matching

We take time to understand each student and family, recommending a tutor who fits both academically and personally.
